Never Forget to Count Your Blessings

Never Forget to Count Your Blessings

As human beings, we sometimes forget to count our blessings.

This happens because we live in a world that keeps pushing us to want more.

To go after what we don’t have and to desire things that seem bigger, faster, or better.

It’s easy to understand why, especially given how quickly the world moves.

In just the first quarter of 2025, numerous countries have undergone significant shifts.

Some of these include economic downturns, climate disruptions, leadership transitions, new reforms, and sweeping changes in laws.

These changes have touched lives and affected relationships between nations.

Yet, in the midst of all this movement and uncertainty, have you paused to reflect on the blessings you still have?

As you go through each day trying to survive or succeed, when was the last time you simply told God “thank you”?

When did you last worship Him, not because you wanted something, but just to praise Him?

Take a moment and really think about it.

What does it mean to count your blessings?

To count your blessings means to take time to name and remember the ways God has been faithful in your life.

It’s about noticing the good things, whether big or small, and giving thanks for them.

This doesn’t mean you have to pretend everything is okay.

It doesn’t mean you should hide your struggles or push aside your emotions.

It’s not about forcing a smile or acting like your pain doesn’t matter, because that never brings real peace.

Instead, the phrase “count your blessings” invites you to be honest.

It reminds you that even when life feels heavy and your heart is troubled, you can still come to God, just as you are, and lay your worries before Him in prayer.

To count your blessings means to take a moment to pause, reflect, and genuinely thank God for His love and faithfulness, even in the midst of life’s challenges.

I will sing of the tender mercies of the Lord forever! Young and old will hear of your faithfulness.

Psalms 89:1

How deeply do you appreciate God’s faithfulness in your life?

Many times, we forget how much God has forgiven us and how truly blessed we are.

We don’t deserve the kindness He shows, yet He keeps providing for us, guiding us, and teaching us with love.

Living with true gratitude starts with noticing the little things.

It’s about slowing down, being thankful for what we have, and learning to shift our focus from our problems to our blessings.

Still, it’s sad to admit that our hearts can often seem ungrateful, despite all He has done.

I understand that some seasons of life feel so heavy, it’s hard to find anything to be thankful for. I’ve felt that too.

But even during those hard times, blessings are still there.

Sometimes, we just have to look a bit harder to see them.

The good news is, it’s never too late to build a heart of gratitude.

You can start today.

Make it a Habit

A simple way to begin practicing gratitude is to make it a habit to count your blessings each morning and night.

It might feel like a lot at first, but don’t focus on how hard it seems.

Instead, focus on the kind of change you want to see in your heart and life.

Some of life’s best moments don’t come after big wins or expensive rewards.

They often hide in the simple, everyday things around us.

For example, instead of feeling bad about not eating at your favorite snack spot because it’s now costly, you can choose to thank God for the food you do have.

Or for the clean clothes you get to wear.

Each morning, when I look around, I find many reasons to be thankful.

I have the strength to get out of bed and walk on my own.

Right now, as I write this, I’m sitting in a small but clean apartment—a roof over my head that I’m grateful for.

When I reflect on my life, I want to remember all the ways God has been good to me, even through the little things.

There have been times of health challenges, financial struggles, or moments when things didn’t go as planned.

But keeping this habit of saying “thank you” to God helps me see my blessings more clearly and keeps my heart thankful.

Life hasn’t given me everything I’ve wished for yet, but I don’t have to look far to see what God has already given.

Even the chance to write this article and share the gospel freely is a blessing, and I do not take it for granted.

Maintain this Habit

As we come to the end of April and move forward with the rest of the year, I want you to remember something important.

You didn’t get this far all by yourself.

Take a moment to think back. You’ll start to see the many ways God has been good to you during these past months.

If you often focus on what’s going wrong or if you find yourself taking things for granted, I encourage you to shift your focus.

Try looking for the blessings instead of the disappointments.

It might not happen overnight, but with consistent prayer, intentional effort, and a thankful heart, you’ll begin to see more of the good.

Over time, you’ll notice yourself focusing on the positive more than the negative.

As we step into the month of May, make it a habit to count your blessings every day.

Try writing down one thing you’re grateful for in a journal each day.

Even on hard days, look for signs that God is still at work in your life.

You can start small—like being thankful for the shoes on your feet or clean clothes to wear.

As you stay faithful with the little things, God will open your eyes to see even more.

Remember, counting your blessings is how gratitude shows itself.

Grateful people take the time to notice and give thanks for what they have.

So, keep living like Christ here on earth.

Maranatha!
