Dealing with Demons Pt 3: How Should Christians Respond?

There are many people in the world today who are under the influence of demons, as well as situations controlled by the forces of darkness.

Because of this, it is important for Christians to have the right attitude toward demons.

They are neither our equals nor our opponents in a fair fight, nor are they peers to be respected or toyed with.

Therefore, it is crucial for every believer to develop spiritual discernment to recognize demonic activity.

So how should Christians respond to demons?

How can we guard ourselves from their attacks, and in the midst of spiritual warfare, where can we find our ultimate source of hope?

• We need to recognize the battle:

First, it’s important to understand what the Bible teaches about demons and the spiritual realm.

We must acknowledge that this battle is real, intense, and dangerous.

It goes beyond what we see in the physical world!

For we are not fighting against people made of flesh and blood, but against the evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against those mighty powers of darkness who rule this world, and against wicked spirits in the heavenly realms.

Ephesians 6:12

God asserts His authority over every part of creation, yet Satan and his demons constantly resist His work.

Demonic activity is ongoing, and it’s crucial that we don’t ignore or pretend it doesn’t exist.

• You have no need to fear:

We have no reason to fear the enemy because the Holy Spirit within us is far greater than the devil.

Our eternal destiny is secure in Christ, and the worst the enemy can do is take our physical life.

The Holy Spirit gives us the power to resist demonic oppression and overcome any attack from demons.

Though demons are tirelessly working to undermine God’s purposes, we strike back forcefully whenever we proclaim and rebuke them with the gospel.

Jesus can shatter their efforts with a single word, and His power makes them tremble.

God’s Word is the weak spot of Satan and his forces.

Christ has already triumphed over them.

Believe this with confidence!

• Pray fervently:

Whether we realize it or not, we are always engaged in spiritual warfare.

We fight not only by proclaiming the gospel but also through persistent and fervent prayer.

The Bible emphasizes that prayer is a key weapon for believers.

Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.

Ephesians 6:18

Paul encourages us to put on the full armor of God so that we can stand firm against the devil’s schemes.

Dealing with demons is serious business—it is a war, not a game.

To remain strong against demonic attacks, we need to pray with confidence, knowing that prayer is a proper response because of who we are praying to.

Demons recognize authority, and they understand that the authority given to Christians surpasses theirs.

When we declare, “In the name of Jesus,” we affirm that this is our authority and that Christ has already secured the victory.

Repeating His name reinforces to the kingdom of darkness that we know this truth.

• Be cautious of deception:

Christians must stay alert to the deceptions and lies spread by Satan and his demons.

Deception is one of their main tactics; they enjoy leading people away with ideas and teachings that contradict the life-giving message of Jesus.

In 1 John 4, when John tells believers to “test the spirits,” he is encouraging us to compare every teaching or feeling that arises in the world to the truth of the gospel.

We must always keep in mind that demons relentlessly seek to deceive and destroy by drawing people away from Christ.

Therefore, we need to remain vigilant and cautious.

We can Find Comfort in God’s Promise

As we think about the lies and attacks of demons in this world, we can take comfort in the promise of a final reckoning.

Jesus will return as the supreme Judge and will make all things right.

Satan and his demons will be cast into the lake of fire, and death and sin will be completely defeated.

This promise should bring great comfort to all of us as we continue to follow Jesus in our lives today.
